Getting to Groningen

By plane

In order to get to Groningen, you can fly to any airport in the Netherlands (Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Rotterdam The Hague Airport, or Eindhoven Airport; try to avoid Maastricht Aachen Airport as this implies a longer train journey). Groningen has an own airport as well (Groningen Airport Eelde), which is, however, only connected to very few destinations.

By train

From all airports, you can easily reach Groningen by train (Amsterdam Airport Schiphol) or by public bus and train (Rotterdam The Hague Airport or Eindhoven Airport). For schedules, please use the journey planner of the Dutch railway company NS:

Getting to the venue Landgoed Ekenstein, Appingedam

Shuttle bus from Groningen

On Friday afternoon (June 2), a shuttle bus will be arranged between Groningen and Landgoed Ekenstein. Conference guests are kindly asked to indicate whether they would like to make use of this offer when registering for the conference.

Public transport from Groningen

From Groningen Central Station, you can take the regional train (Arriva-train) to the station ‘Appingedam’ (for train times, see The train ride takes about 30 minutes.

Upon arrival in Appingedam, please call 0900 – 0911 or 0596-613000 to get a regional taxi to Landgoed Ekenstein (travel time approx. 10 minutes).

How to get from Groningen to Ekenstein by car

From Groningen, take the N 360 in the direction of Delfzijl. Follow this road for about 20 km. Shortly after the exit Wirdum, you will see a sign of Estate Ekenstein on your right-hand side. 300 meters after the sign you need to turn right, drive into the lane until you reach the river ‘Damsterdiep’, and turn left just before the bridge. After about one kilometer, you will find the estate on the left side of the road.
