Landgoed Ekenstein is located close to the historical town of Appingedam, which is about 800 years old and famous for its ‘hangende keukens’ (hanging kitchens). Its church, the Nicolaikerk, dates back to 1225, with the city hall having been added onto the church building in 1630. Appingedam is organized around different small rivers and offers many picturesque views. In the city centre you can find different shops and a museum about the city of Appingedam.
